A Study on Accum’s exposing British Food and Drug Adulteration and its Influence

1820年,阿卡姆出版著作揭露英国的食品药品掺假状况,引起社会舆论的关注,许多报刊杂志纷纷发表评论,要求政府采取措施防止食品药品掺假。由于时代的局限、舆论缺乏引导和阿卡姆个人的不谨慎等因素,导致反对掺假的舆论很快退潮。这次呼吁虽然没有达到目标,但它发出了英国近代历史上要求政府防止食品药品掺假的第一声呐喊,开启了一个从微弱到逐渐强大的反食品药品掺假运动,对30年后反对食品药品掺假的改革者的影响尤其深远。

In 1820,Accum published a book exposing British adulteration of food and drug,which had received much attention by people.Many magazines and newspapers commented on the object and urged the government to take the measure to stop the food and drug adulteration.Due to the limitation of the age,guideless public opinion and Accum’s imprudence,the voice of anti-adulteration ebbed in no time.Although this appeal for reform did not achieve the goal,it was the first effort to require the government to prevent the adulteration of food and drug in the British modern history.This appeal aroused a Crusade from weak to strong which opposed adulteration of food and drug,and had strongly influenced the Crusaders 30 years later.
