Criminal law,as an important part of the national legal system,is an indispensable and irreplaceable legal weapon for governing the country,protecting people,punishing and preventing crime.Criminal law was greatly valued since the founding of new China.On one hand,in order to cleanse the filthy remnants left behind by the old society and promote the social reform successfully,a series of separate criminal laws were formulated such as the Interim Regulations on Punishment for Impairment of State Currency,Regulations on Punishing Counter-Revolutionaries and Regulations on Punishment for Corruption and so on;on the other hand,the Criminal law of the People s Republic of China drafted by the Law Office of General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People s Congress in October 1954 was finally approved by the Second Session of the Fifth National People's Congress on July 1,1979 through difficulties and hardships and became the first criminal law of China.Its historic feat lay in that it systemized the criminal legal norms of new China for the first time;it provided law for people to abide by in handling work of criminal justice;after its issuance,criminal judicial documents should all cite legal provisions;it provided abundant sources of ideas and practical norm basis for criminal law teaching and research in China.
