关公戏在宋元之时出现了第一次演出盛况,明前期百年时间内关公戏传承了宋元关公戏演出传统,整体看明中后期剧本创作受文人剧的影响致使关公戏改编或创作趋向雅化,不能为关公戏曲舞台提供充足的新鲜血液。明末至有清一朝关公戏迎来了其演出史中的鼎盛时期,打磨出了可供演出的经典。为各阶层民众提供了娱乐欣赏之具。

Guan Gong drama saw its first prosperity in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.The Guan Gong dramas in the early Ming Dynasty inherited the traditions of those in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.Due to the influences of literati,the script writing and adaptation of Guan Gong dramas tended to be refined in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,which failed to provide new elements to Guan Gong dramas.Guan Gong drama met its heyday in the late Ming and Qing Dynasties,and many classic dramas became important ways of entertainment for all walks of life.
