湖南茶文献依据其产生时间,可大致分为古代湖南茶文献、民国时期湖南茶文献、当代湖南茶文献。古代湖南茶文献多集中于地方志中,林之兰所辑《禁碑录》是研究安化茶业的重要史料;民国时期湖南茶文献数量有了明显的增加,并产生了彭先泽等茶学大师;当代湖南茶文献中多为各级政府有关茶业的政策文件,各茶业公司、茶厂的生产总结、宣传资料、发展历史概况、申报书,茶业学术会议或经验交流会议论文集等。
