The discovery and development of drugs is one of the most important transformational science activities that promote human health and well-being.However,the development of modern new drugs is a very complicated,expensive and long process.In the western developed countries,it takes an average of 12 years to develop a new drug,and the cost is as high as 2.6 billion US dollars.How to reduce costs and accelerate the development of new drugs has become a challenging and urgent issue in the industry.As computer performance continues to improve,artificial intelligence(AI)is expected to be combined with new experimental techniques to find new drugs faster,cheaper,and more efficiently.This article discusses the latest advances in AI in several important steps in the drug discovery process.
