Based on earlier research and interviews with interviews with instructors and faculty members,this study indicates that the academic fields in which instructors teach exert a very strong influence on their decisions about curricula.This study discusses the main differences between academic fields and discipline,features of key disciplines,and how and why instructors’academic fields have a profound influence on the nature of knowledge,the purpose of education,course and program goals,content sequencing,and instruction.The study also emphasizes that maintaining the balance between various academic fields is necessary to develop an effective academic plan.Further,it suggests that maximizing the connections between academic fields and disciplines and designing university curricula with a clear purpose will improve the consistency and coherence of educational programs and courses.
