The spring in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s“The Canterbury Pilgrims”is a very profound symbol.The spring contains the ambiguous meanings of religion,sex and life experience.Through close reading the spring will be analyzed from the perspective of culture,mythology and history to show the plurality,ambiguity and profundity of the image.
