From Quebei to Pishihang——Millennium History and Reasons for the Development of Western Anhui Irrigation Areas

大业陂——“天下第一古塘”,芍陂——“天下第一塘”,淠史杭灌区被中外专家誉为“新中国水利建设史上一颗光辉灿烂的明珠”;从芍陂到淠史杭,皖西大地两千多年来灌溉工程不停修建。工程建设呈现出规划设计因地制宜,工程体系完善,功用利国利民的特点。富国强民的政治主张推动,江淮分水岭位置和气候的独特,旱涝频发、灾难深重的现实呼唤,推动了皖西灌区水利工程两千多年来持续不断发展。

Dayebei—“the first ancient pond in the world”,Quebei—“the first pond in the world”,Pishihang Irrigation Areas is known as“a brilliant pearl in the history of new China's water conservancy construction”by Chinese and foreign experts;from Quebei to Pishihang,irrigation projects in the west of Anhui have been continuously constructed for more than 2000 years.The project construction shows the characteristics of planning and design in accordance with local conditions,perfect project system and benefiting the country and the people.Driven by the political proposition of enriching the country and strengthening the people,the unique location and climate of the watershed between the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River,and the realistic call of frequent drought and flood and severe disaster,the irrigation area water conservancy project in Western Anhui Province has been developing continuously for more than 2000 years.
