Vernacular Literary History by HU Shi has caused great repercussions and profound influence since its publication.As the first literary history book written from the perspective of vernacular,it lays down a solid foundation for the New Literary Movement.Despite of numerous discussions,there still lacks in-depth probes into this book.And it has provoked widely differentiated and controversial comments,mainly concerning its initiation and/or prejudice.It is critically important to make an in-depth inspection to every detail in vernacular Literary History,so as to grasp HU Shi’s literary history visions and viewpoints.
