David Lodge is an important contemporary novelist and critic in Britain with great achievements in his academic novels.This paper makes an analysis on his academic novels from the perspectives of satire,metafictional devices and inter-textuality to reveal its narrative characteristics.Satire is employed in Lodge’s novels to present the caricature of the western academic world and criticize the scholars’moral degeneration.With metafictional devices and inter-textuality,Lodge presents literary critic theories and puts them into practice so as to effectively express his thematic concern and subtly expose his artistry.Lodge’s comic-satiric style has a great potential to refresh academic fiction in Britain.
