运动是事物存在的方式。“运动现代性”是指在现代性动力的驱动之下,现代性世界呈现了现代性运动变化状态,由一般性的现代性动力的运动上升为一种抽象的、普遍的现代性运动,甚至是一种无处不在的运动变化意识的现代性。“运动现代性”具有不确定性、新异性、变易性等多重特征,其中求“新”是其内在动力,速度是其外在表征,流动性是其呈现形态,运动变易是其本质,不确定性是其衍生属性。“运动现代性”具有一定的审美意义,“运动现代性”下运动变化造成视听冲击的震惊美、运动感官体验的速度美以及运动的不确定的模糊美。
