A View from the Bridge,an early work of Arthur Miller the American playwright,reveals itself as an ethical tragedy by telling Eddie's moral downfall from ordinary life to tragic death.This paper argues that Eddie's tragic status is displayed through the loss of identity in ethical predicament where his sense of responsibility conflicts with his lust.It is further analyzed that Eddie's immoral behaviors,motivated by irrational will,lead him to a tragic end.The conclusion is that Miller's intention of depicting Eddie as a taboo breaker is to call people's attention to the importance of family bond and moral order.
