The article discusses the upgrading and transformation direction of engineering cost consulting business under the whole-process engineering consulting mode. Through analyzing the development and business characteristics of foreign engineering consulting industry and combining with the guidance direction of domestic policies, the article points out that the separation of short chain service from other professional services is the main inconsistency between the traditional engineering cost consulting business and the whole process engineering consulting requirements. The article proposes that in order to integrate into the whole-process engineering consulting, attentions should be paid to multi-stage continuous cost control, all-round intervention and strengthening the leading role for cost consulting;the main body of the industry should abandon the inertia thinking and rely on upgrading of new technologies, such as BIM and acquisition and utilization of engineering cost data;and some firms can expand their business to form the whole-process consulting leading ability or comprehensive consulting service ability. The engineering cost consulting business transformed and upgraded in accordance with the whole-process consulting concept can further enhance the professional role, more rationally balance the investment, quality and duration objectives of construction projects, assist the project owners to manage and control investment scientifically and maximize the benefits.
