双重意识下的美国黑人不可避免地经历着身份危机,现实的生存空间成为黑白异质文化交锋的场所。在《兄弟与看守者》一书中,魏德曼刻画了约翰和罗比对身份危机的不同抗议方式。本文从空间的视角,解读弟弟罗比用暴力方式进行抗议的原因以及哥哥约翰如何逃离黑人空间,以反讽式书写表达抗议。通过展现非裔美国人的身份危机和抗议方式,魏特曼揭开了美国黑人生存空间的神秘面纱,为黑人寻求平等空间和身份提供了有效思路。

Under the influence of double consciousness, African-American people inevitably experience the identity crisis, and the living space becomes the place where the black and white cultures clash. In "Brothers and Keepers", Wideman portrays John’s and Robby’s different responses to identity crises. From the perspective of space, this paper examines the reasons why Robby protests in a violent way and how John escapes from the black space and chooses writing as a way of protest. By presenting the identity crisis and protest of African-Americans, Wideman uncovers the mystery of the living space of African-Americans and provides effective ideas for black people to seek equal space and identity.
