By using literature reviews and logical analysis,the paper studies the in fluence of large-scale sports events on the internationalization of Shanghai city,the sport events are the“booster”for the Shanghai city internationalization and an important tool for Shanghai realizing the“outstanding global city”.The successful experience includes benchmarking world-class cities,a wide range of sports diplomacy activities,various of international brand sports events,international development of sports industry and all-round building of city image.Enlightenment for Chinese cities to boost the city internationalization with sports events:to locate city and large-scale sports events with high standards in order to build long-term international development strategy;bring sports into the development strategy of city internationalization and keep the driving force of city sustainable development;build world-class stadiums and facilities to attract top international sports events;bid for large-scale sports events to build a distinctive city brand;develop sports industry with high quality and enhance the agglomeration of city international high-end elements.
