Research on Dynamic Development of L2 Writing: Theory, Methodology and Research Tools

通过对比分析传统二语书面语发展研究的理论基础与研究方法,本研究发现动态系统理论观方法论独特,能还原二语书面语发展的复杂性、动态性、非线性、变异性特征。为了使学习者二语书面语发展路径的内在机制清晰可见,本研究通过实证案例推介动态系统理论视角下的研究方法、数据分析软件和可视化数据分析工具,以期帮助研究者方便快捷地处理二语书面语发展中复杂变量间的动态联结及交互,更好地揭示个体差异和发展中的语言变异。最后,对现有二语书面语动态实证研究进行了反思,旨在为将来相关研究提供新视角。

This study compares the traditional and dynamic theories and research methods on the developmental studies of L2 writing, and finds that the Dynamic System Theory with its particular methodology could reflect complexity, dynamics, nonlinearity, and variabilities of L2 writing development. In order to make the learners’internal mechanism of L2 writing development more visible, this study introduces some particular research methods, software tools and visual data analysis tools with empirical examples to help researchers process effectively the complex data of the dynamic interconnection and interaction of subsystems, better revealing the individual learning differences and variabilities in L2 writing development. Reflections on the existing dynamic empirical studies on L2 writing are also given to provide a new research perspective for future studies.
