Memory Recreating and Power Struggles——A Study on the Impoliteness Strategies of Pinter’s Memory Plays Old Times

在哈罗德·品特记忆剧《昔日》中,人物为了争夺权利不仅重塑记忆,还采取语言上的不礼貌策略。以卡尔佩珀的五种不礼貌策略为基础,分析此部戏剧中的不礼貌现象,可以发现,不礼貌策略一方面使人物性格更加丰满、情节冲突更加强烈、戏剧主题更加深化,另一方面其使用更容易造成冲突,威胁双方的面子。品特通过在戏剧中使用不礼貌策略,展现了后工业社会人们的生存困境。

In Harold Pinter’s memory plays Old Times,characters not only recreate their memories,but also adopt language impoliteness strategies to win power struggles.Based on Culpeper’s five impoliteness strategies,this paper analyzes the impoliteness phenomenon in Pinter’s memory play Old Times.It can be found that impoliteness strategies on the one hand can deeply enrich characterizations,intense plot conflicts,deepen drama themes.But on the other hand,the use of impoliteness strategies is more likely to cause conflicts and threaten the face of both parties.By using impolite strategies in plays,Pinter shows the existence dilemma of people in post-industrial society.
