An Analysis of the “Ghetto” Phenomenon in the New York City from the Perspective of Global Immigration in the 20th Century

纽约不仅是美国的移民窗口,也是美国多族裔社会的一个缩影,从某种角度上看,纽约的种族隔离问题颇具典型性。纽约有着悠久的移民历史,全球移民导致了纽约族裔的多样性。由于历史的原因,纽约社会中存在着根深蒂固的种族歧视。纽约的种族歧视不仅体现在文化上的排斥,也体现在经济上的压榨。因此,纽约形成了众多的少数族裔聚居区,“隔都”现象也由此产生了。

The New York City is not only a showcase of American immigrants,but also an epitome of the multi-ethnic society of the United States.Meanwhile,it is rather typical in racial segregation in certain respects.The New York City has a long history of immigration,while global immigration has resulted in ethnic diversity of the New York City.Due to historical reasons,there is a deep-rooted social and racial discrimination in the New York City,which is reflected not only in the form of cultural exclusion,but also in economic oppression.As a result,numerous ethnic minority communities have emerged,thus giving rise to the ghetto phenomenon in the city.
