For a long time, the belief that Romanticism embraces nature has made the city an empty and negative existence. In fact, the city has proved to be an important object of poetic writing for many Romantic poets. This paper attempts to relocate British Romantic poetry in the context of urban human geography and analyze the London imagined and represented by Romantic poets. It argues that London is presented not as a mere contrast of nature, but a space full of contradictions and meanings, reflecting the poets’ perception of and concern with the symptoms of modernity, and their understanding of modern life from the perspective of flaneurie.
