Popular Culture and Gender Politics:The Content and Criticism of John Fiske’s Female Cultural Studies

John Fiske’s discussion of women’s culture mainly involves the gender politics of the patriarchal text control and the female tactical resistance.In his view,women express the resistance,autonomy and creativity of women’s culture through "making do" the cultural resources provided by patriarchy and their own consumption.Meanwhile,they satisfy their own pleasure appeals.It is undeniable that the cultural creation of women’s "making do" will bring some kind of touch to the patriarchal system to a certain extent.However,the way of female resistance mentioned by Fiske is more like a self-entertainment symbol decoding game.Although this resistance can bring psychological masturbation and satisfaction to women,it does not fundamentally bridge the power in equality between gendes.
