Recitatif was the only published short novel written by Toni Morrison.As a pioneering experimental work,the fuzziness of racial identity in this novel makes it unique.This essay will study on the identities of Roberta and Maggie in Recitatif,how the novel breaks the traditional White Centralism and the disintegration of the binary opposition between the white and the black,aiming to provide directions and suggestions for solving the racial conflicts between the white and the black.
