Hotspots and controversies on adjuvant therapy for early stage breast cancer were discussed in the st.Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference 2019.Focusing on the classification of risk,conferee discussed the identification of high risk patients and clinical decision based on the degree of risk.In terms of surgical treatment,under the trend of expanding indications for reduction of surgical scope and partial omission of surgery,the irreplaceable role of surgery in the treatment of early breast cancer was mainly discussed.The preliminary data of SOUND study were declared,which provided more evidences for deescalating in axillary surgery.This paper presentsan overview of the surgical issues in this conference.
