On the Evolution of the Images of Guanyin in White in the Four Regions in Tang and Song Dynasties

唐宋时期是白衣观音图像形成与发展的重要时期,此间白衣观音图像的演变可划分为四大区域:巴蜀地区、江南地区、中原北方汉族地区,以及与宋并存的辽金西夏等北方少数民族政权地区。不同区域内的白衣观音图像在兴起时间、流行时间、信仰群体、造型样式等方面各不相同,具有鲜明的时代性和地域性特点。

The Tang and Song Dynasties were an important period for the formation and development of the images of Guanyin in white.The evolution of the images can be divided into four regions:Bashu region,Jiangnan region,the Han Nationality region in the north of the Central China,and the northern minority regime regions such as Liao,Jin and Xixia coexisting with the Song Dynasty.The images of Guanyin in white in different regions are different in rising time,popular time,belief group,modeling style and so on,with distinct characteristics of the times and regions.
