Novels created by ACheng are full of regional cultural colour. He always focuses on the history and culture of the Northeast region as well as the livings of the ordinary people passionately, and it is the reason why ACheng is different from other literary writers. His novels implied spiritual characteristics of root-seeking thoughts in the early stage and then turned to the revelation of the turbulence and circulation of the “roots” of specific regional cultures and in-depth analysis of the spiritual rootlessness and survival predicament of nobody in Northeast China. ACheng shows us the vividness, diversity and uniqueness of the Northeast region by his literary writing based on his life experience as well as his depiction of the sorrows and joys of the lower-level masses in this region. The significance of ACheng in the contemporary literature circle is that he has developed a unique literary space outside the mainstream literature, which makes the Northeast region not only a structural existence in the “national territory” but also a region with its rich appearance detailed presented.
