A New Direction in Sociolinguistics : An Interdisciplinary Study of Language Variation and Cognitive Science

变异社会语言学和认知科学在内容与方法维度上的互补性催生了认知社会语言学、社会语言学认知研究、变异习得研究、计算建模研究以及跨物种语言/交流变异的比较研究等五大交叉学科领域,并成为了社会语言学研究获得新进展的重要突破口。将重点探讨上述交叉研究的内容和意义,以期为国内社会语言学研究,尤其是变异社会语言学研究提供新的思路和方法。

The complementation of variationist sociolinguistics and cognitive science in both content and method spawns five interdisciplinary domains,i.e.cognitive sociolinguistics,sociolinguistic cognition,acquisition of variation,computational modeling and a comparative approach of variation in human language and animal communication,which is an important breakthrough in sociolinguistic studies.This paper mainly focuses on the content and significance of the above cross-studies in order to provide new thoughts and methods for the sociolinguistic studies,especially the variationist sociolinguistics in China.
