An Analysis of Wang Chuanshan’s Deep Thinking and Taoism’s Love in Commenting on Tao Yuanming

在《古诗评选》中船山对陶渊明的评价抱有极复杂的心态。王船山虽对陶也有大量的肯定,但不必讳言,他对陶的评论是有所保留的。船山陶评虽有意忽视了陶诗自身的流转命运,却更深刻地联系了中华传统。他的陶评为后世保留了不少精湛的以抨击宋元以来形形色色浅俗者喜欢借陶而自造、实以自我矫情为主的思想材料。它虽以过分的刻薄而传达不了陶所及于历代士人的期望:借之以重温玄言而对陶自生为情,却以自己独具的思想见解而耐人寻味。

Tao Yuanming was a well-known man in Dongjin era and a poet who had a profound influence on Chinese culture.Wang Chuanshan has put in a very complex mentality in Comment on Selected Ancient Poems.Wang Chuanshan has a lot of affirmation to Tao,but he has some reservations about Tao’s evaluation.Although his comment about Tao intentionally ignored the historical circulation fate of Tao’s poetry,but more deeply linked to the Chinese tradition.His comment on Tao has left many materials of his own exquisite,which the future generation used it to attack all kinds of shallow people like to overstate himself by using Tao’s image and to argue irrationally actually in Song and Yuan Dynasties.Although excessive meanness cannot convey Tao and the past generations expect to use it to relive the secret words and Tao’s self-incrimination,it is meaningful and thought-provoking for their own unique ideas and intriguing.
