The Academic Value and Cultural Significance of the Works of “Phonetic-Semantics”

汉魏六朝时期,由于儒家讲经及佛家讲经的影响,出现了大量的音义类著作。音义类著作要求正确的释义和精准的读音,是经典传播不可缺少的。音义类著作,作为经典的附属品,使经典在传播的过程中,不仅受众得其正义,而且通过正确而节奏和谐的声音,使经典的生命力得到充分的展示。音义类著作虽不是文学作品,但它所提供的诵读的方式,是我们了解当时文学有声传播的重要途径。

During the Han,Wei and the Six Dynasties,due to the influence of Confucian and Buddhist classics studies,many works of "phonetic-semantics"appeared. These books required correct interpretation as well as accurate pronunciation,which are necessary for the spreading of the classics. As the accessories of the classic study,this kind of works helped the audience not only understand the classics correctly,but also obtain the accurate rhythm and harmonious voice of the texts,thus fully expose the vitality of the classics. Although this kind of works are not literature works,the way of reading provided by these works is an important way for us to comprehend the sound transmission of literature at that time.
