Nuclear transcription factor-κB(NF-κB) is an important transcription factor that induces antiviral gene expression and plays an important role in physiological and pathological processes such as oxidative stress, apoptosis and inflammation by regulating the expression of multiple target genes. Herpes simplex virus type Ⅰ(HSV-1) is a widely spread virus, caused a variety of diseases worldwide. The emergence of drug-resistant strains has increased the urgency of developing new antiviral drugs, and medicinal plants and their extracts have attracted more and more attention as antiviral drugs. This article mainly summarizes the mechanism of latent infection and recurrence of HSV-1, the mechanism of NF-κB activation induced by HSV-1 infection and different traditional Chinese medicine blocking the NF-κB signaling pathway inhibition HSV-1 mechanisms, in order to against the new drug research and development and control of HSV-1 virus caused by the disease provide a reference basis.
