The philosophical Implication of Xunzi’s “Number”

“数”起源于人们的生活实践,在表方法标准和策略等含义上与“术”相通。在荀子的哲学思想中,“数”具有十分重要的意义,并可通过化性起伪和尊经隆礼两种途径实现哲学层面的修身之“数”、治国之“数”和平天下之“数”。

“Number”originates from people’s life practice,and is similar to“art”in the meaning of table method standard and strategy.In Xunzi’s philosophical thought,“number”is of great significance and may achieve the“number”of self-cultivation at philosophical level,the“number”of governing the country and the“number”of peace by means of removing man’s evils and respecting etiquettes.
