The paper is based on the dietary narrative of David Wong Louie s long novel The Barbarians Are Coming and combining the post-colonial context,it analyzes the process of repairing the relationship from estrangement to healing the rift between the first-generation Chinese Americans and their descendants through the descriptions of the leading character Sterling Lung s chef s career choice, eating attitudes and cooking styles. The paper reflects the dilemma of American Chinese cultural identity hidden behind the diets and how Sterling Lung reconstructed his self-identity in the changing attitudes towards Chinese food.
