世界一流大学学生在读什么经典?——一项来自百万开放课程大纲大数据的研究

What Classics Are First Class University Students Reading?——An Empirical Analysis Based on Big Data of Million Open Syllabus

保存与传播知识是大学图书馆的使命之一,经典推广与阅读是重要途径之一。文章利用哥伦比亚大学的百万开放课程大纲项目数据,从分布特点、高影响力著作、高影响力作者角度,统计与分析了50所世界一流大学的教学大纲所推荐的经典著作。研究发现,一流大学极为重视经典阅读,阅读内容覆盖了西方文明史上的优秀作者及其经典著作,导向上重视通识教育与专业经典阅读。对于我国大学图书馆而言,阅读推广应回归经典,服务嵌入至本科教学,重视图书馆数据开放与跨界共享。

Maintaining and disseminating knowledge is the mission of academic libraries. Classic promotion and reading are one of the important ways. Based on big data of Open Syllabus Project, the paper retrieves and analyzes the distribution features of classic works recommended by the syllabus in 50 first class universities. It describes and analyzes 85 top writings and 117 top authors. The results show that first class university pays great importance to classic reading by covering excellent authors and their classic work in the history of western civilization and paying significant attention to comprehensive education and professional classics reading. Therefore, it gives some constructive suggestions for academic libraries in China, which includes returning od reading promotion to classics, embedding services in undergraduate curriculum, and sharing of library data openly and cross-boundary.
