Discrimination of George Steiner’s Fourfold Hermeneutic Motion Theory

乔治·斯坦纳的四步骤阐释运作理论是翻译思想和理论研究领域的重要课题,然而学界对各步骤的解释迄今仍然或止于原文转述,或语焉不详。鉴此,本文尝试对各步骤实质内涵予以分析,提出各步骤汉译应为信任、入侵、吞并、赔偿。在此基础上,本文进一步从斯坦纳理论建构的两大基础——阐释学和战争隐喻角度指出四步骤阐释运作理论存在的问题,并对其价值予以评定。

George Steiner’s fourfold hermeneutic motion theory is an important topic in the field of translation thoughts and theory,however,the explanation of each fold is still limited to the original text or vague.In view of this,this paper attempts to analyze the essence of each fold,and proposes that each should be translated into Chinese as trust,aggression,incorporation and compensation.On the basis of this,the paper further points out the problems of the fourfold hermeneutic motion from the perspective of the two foundations of Steiner’s theory,i.e.,Hermeneutics and war metaphors,and finally evaluates its value.
