The librarianship in the new era is characterized by high-quality development as the demands,transformation and upgrading as the new driving force,and integrated development as the new tendency. In view of this,the library should explore its new roles as the base for the education of core values and mainstream ideology,the platform for the development of cultures with regional and urban characteristics,the cradle for improving the standard in literacy and the level of civility of the populace,the open window for the cultural cooperation and exchanges with foreign countries,and the information center for the innovation-driven development of all walks of life as well. In order to push forward its development,the library with explicit characteristics and definite roles should take its responsibilities to enhance its sense of historical responsibility,make detailed plans and schemes,and to improve its comprehensive capabilities.
