五四精神是一个历史范畴,不同时代对其的阐释略有不同。第一阶段(1919~1949)对五四精神的解读饱含激情,但略显分散;第二阶段(1949~1978)对五四精神的解读中有强烈的革命色彩;第三阶段(1979~2000)在五四精神中融入较多开放、启蒙的元素;第四个阶段(2000~2019)将五四精神凝练为爱国、进步、民主、科学。无论哪个时代,爱国精神都是五四精神的核心点。新时代五四精神仍是大学生宝贵的精神财产,是增强海内外青年民族认同感、塑造青年理性爱国品格和培养青年爱国责任意识的有力武器。

The May 4th spirit,as a historical category,is interpreted in a different way in different times.In the first stage(1919~1949),the interpretation of the May 4th spirit was full of passion,but dispersed slightly;in the second stage(1999~1978),a strong revolutionary color existed in the interpretation of the May 4th spirit;in the third stage(1979~2000),a lot of elements of opening and enlightenment were integrated into the May 4th spirit;and in the fourth stage(2000~2019),the May 4th spirit has been condensed into patriotism,progress,democracy and science.Patriotism is always the core of the May 4th spirit in any era.In the New Era,the patriotism in the May 4th spirit is still the valuable spiritual heritage for college students.Also,it is a powerful weapon for Chinese young people at home and abroad to strengthen their national identity,shape their rational patriotic character,and develop their patriotic sense of responsibility.
