Humans and Humanity:Doctor-Patient Relationship in TCM and Its Import to Contemporary Practice

百年以来传统中医的备受质疑,凸显文化自觉的重要性。传统中医医患关系中"以人为本、以仁爱之心对待患者"的诊治方式和医德理念,对当今社会紧张的医患关系疏解有重要的借鉴意义。对其继承和创新,既是中医在当代的发展机遇,也是解决中医困境的有效途径。中医的"文化扬弃"要求文化的传承和创新,即一方面从传统中医文化中寻求价值,另一方面又要顺应新的时代要求。

Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has remained a topic of controversy for the last one hundred years or so,a fact that suggests that it is now time to revive the traditional culture.TCM lays emphasis on treating patients with humanity in dealing with doctor-patient relationship and regards it as part of its professional ethics.This is something we can learn and follow,particularly in today’s medical world where an intensity of such relationship is felt.Such TCM professional ethics and practices shall not only create opportunities for the development of TCM itself,but also help it to find a way out of the dilemma it faces.The TCM notion about"abandoning what is undesirable in the traditional culture and giving full play to what is"attaches importance to both inheritance and innovation.That is,it not only tries to bring out what is valuable in the traditional culture,but also is committed to cater to the needs of the ever-changing times.
