In the context of the beginning of socialist industrialization,it was urgent that the leadership of the working class be established, and young writers were regarded as a new army for literature and art.Against this background, the first generation of worker writers appeared in Shanghai. They represented the success of the new regime in implementing the practice of“knowledge-based laboring people”and an effective model for cultivating“labor intellectuals,”but they were inherently flawed.Because of their special status as both workers and writers, they were situated between the reliable working class and the suspicious intellectuals, creating a dilemma in the class structure. The rapidly changing political ecology and the complex historical factors produced this ambiguous identity.
