An increasing number of clinical evidences suggest that dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system plays an important role in major depressive disorder(MDD).MDD patients are often accompanied by a variety of physical symptoms,including cardiovascular symptoms,insomnia,and gastrointestinal discomfort,etc.These may be due to imbalance in the autonomic nervous system,which also often indicates a greater degree of depression and worse prognosis.This article will systematically review the autonomic nervous function of MDD patients including heart rate variability and changes in gastric motility.
