This paper introduces the technical background of single-side-welding double-side-forming welding of shielded metal arc welding plate butt overhead-welding, analyzes the preparations before welding from the aspects of welding power supply,welding rod, welding specimen, specimen cleaning, specimen assembly, welding parameters, etc., expounds the welding process in three stages of backing layer welding, filling layer welding and cover layer welding, and mainly discusses the welding methods of each layer, such as joint method, power polarity connection method, arc stopping method, cleaning and inspection after welding. It is pointed out that shielded metal arc welding method can effectively improve the qualification rate of single-side-welding double-side-forming, and the welding quality is good, which can be used for reference for other welding methods.
