A Brief Discussion on the Central Plains Area and the Central Plains Culture

中原文化是植根于中原地区的历史文化,它是中国古代的一种地域文化。中原地区的范围应以明清至今的河南省地域为主体,兼及山西南部、陕西东部、河北南部、山东西南部和安徽西北部地区为宜,这是中国地域文化生成发展的一方沃土。广义的文化包括物质文化、精神文化与制度文化,而文化史著述所谓文化主要是精神文化即观念形态的文化。中原文化形成和发展演变的历史可以分为八个阶段。中原文化是华夏文明形成阶段的多元一体格局的核心,也是中华民族传统文化的主流,它具有根源性、融合性、延续性、辐射性等特性。中原文化蕴含着中国意识和大一统思想、中和、和合思想与爱国为民、无私奉献、自强不息、奋发有为精神,在中华民族精神的熔铸中起着十分重要的作用。

The Central Plains culture is a historical culture rooted in the Central Plains area, and it is a kind of regional culture in ancient China. The scope of the Central Plains should take Henan Province from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present as the main body, as well as southern Shanxi, eastern Shanxi, southern Hebei, southwestern Shandong and northwestern Anhui, which is a fertile ground for development of Chinese regional culture. In a broad sense, culture includes material culture, spiritual culture and institutional culture, while the so-called culture in the writings of cultural history is mainly spiritual culture, that is the culture of ideological form. The history of the formation, development and evolution of Central Plains culture can be divided into eight stages. The Central Plains culture is not only the core of the pluralistic integration pattern in the formation of Chinese civilization, but also the mainstream of Chinese traditional culture. It has the characteristics of root,integration, continuity, radiation and so on. The culture of the Central Plains contains Chinese consciousness and the thought of great unity, harmony, patriotism, selfless dedication and self-improvement, which plays a very important role in the formation of the spirit of the Chinese nation.
