One key that opens three locks——On the premiere of the Shanxi Song and Dance Theatre’s Three Locks

山西是中国的文化大省,有着深厚的历史文化积淀。在最近十几年中,也曾创排了多部在全国叫得响传得开的佳作,有舞剧、话剧、戏曲、音乐剧等,但是唯独在歌剧创作演出方面始终是个空白。因而,山西省歌舞剧院在2019年底推出的民族歌剧《三把锁》就格外引人关注。

In the past decade, Shanxi—a culturally impor tant province tracing thousands of years of history—has created a number of fine works, among them dance dramas, spoken dramas, traditional operas and musicals. One genre that had been missing, however, was opera. Because of that, the original opera Three Locks produced by the Shanxi Song and Dance Theatre in late 2019 attracted much attention.
