Poetry is a highly concise language in lack of explicit cohesive device.The flow and effect of“time”are two subsidiary metaphors and the general metaphor“+TIME IS AN ENTITY+”are analyzed to explore the cognitive coherence in the sonnets.The extension and promotion of the two subsidiary metaphors under the general metaphor form a network of metaphors which make the sonnets consistent and distinctive themes,coherent and compact,and meanwhile leave readers space of imagination.
