This report provides the contextual background, rationale, and significance of the award for interdisciplinary excellence in mathematics education at Texas A&M University. The award highlights the importance of recognizing and valuing interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary collaboration in mathematics education as a mechanism to promote the development of mathematics education as an interdisciplinary field. Information about the award and citations for previous awardees are also provided, to highlight what this award aims to honor.
