论堕民的多神信仰

On the Polytheism of Duomin

堕民属于多神信仰,他们极少数人信仰基督教,大都信仰佛教以及中国土生土长的众多道教神祇。堕民聚居区建有众多的佛教寺院,仅三埭街就有前庙、三休庵、静休庵和永福庵。堕民对财神菩萨赵公明和五圣极为虔诚,对煞神和五都菩萨也敬畏有加。堕民乃是贱民,不敢得罪任何神祇,祈求神灵以改善卑贱的地位。

Duomin believed in polytheistic religions,a few of whom believed in Christianity while the majority of whom believed in Buddhism and a variety of native Taoist gods.Many Buddhist temples were built in the Duomin neighborhood,with the Former Temple,Sanxiu Nunnery,Jingxiu Nunnery and Yongfu Nunnery standing along the Sandai Street.Duomin worshiped Zhao Gongming,the god of wealth,and the Five Saints;they stood in awe to the evil spirit god and Wudu Bodhisattva.As“pariahs”,Duomin dreaded offending any god and prayed to them with a view to improving their lowly status.
