Resetting Modernity:A Review of Bruno Latour’s Thought

近年来,法国哲学家布鲁诺·拉图尔领导团队在各国奔波游说,呼吁全世界警醒,共同面对到来的"人类纪"。他如同一位研究人类整体症状的医生,以广义对称性的人类学为工具,通过对实验室、科学史,乃至全球生态的诊断,将病因确诊为"现代性"问题,并提出"重置现代性"的处方。拉图尔也向中国学者倡议:在应对共同的生态突变时,中国传统的非现代思想或可提供借鉴的角度。

In recent years, the French philosopher Bruno Latour has been taking a team of scholars around the world to warn people about the need to face up to the challenge of the "Anthropocene". Latour is like a doctor who studies the overall symptoms of human beings. Using anthropology of generalized symmetry as an instrument, after diagnosing pathologies in the laboratory and the history of science, Latour has turned his attention to global ecology;in each case he identified the source of infection as "modernity". His proposed therapy is to "Reset Modernity". As an element in this re-setting, Latour suggests that China’s traditional non-modern ideas might provide a different point of view when dealing with the common ecological mutation.
