The idea of dedication and capability is from the motto of Nankai University“Dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability, and aspiration for progress with each passing day”.“Dedication”means the cultivation of students'sense of public morality, social responsibility and mission.“Capability”implies knowledge and ability, which enables students to serve their motherland through the teaching of knowledge and skills. The idea of dedication and capability is similar to the general education in the international perspective, and highly coincident with the ideological and political education at the national level. Both of them emphasize the importance of knowledge and cultivating together. The selected specialized course, which is relative with professional course,is setup for junior and senior. The time span of knowledge progress is long, and the knowledge step-stone and physical history are included. It supplies the opportunity for dedication and capability education in the course. From the aspects of scientific design, teaching methods and assessment methods of professional elective courses, this paper discusses how to incorporate the idea of dedication and capability into the course. The aim is to cultivate the students to be dedication to public interests, and acquisition of all-round capability.
