Hu opera, a term used in the Han dynasty, refers to the Huns’ opera and dance performance. It can be seen from New Book of Jia Zi that Hu opera refers to, in its narrow sense, the song and dance performance by women in special costumes at the banquet of hosting Hun emissaries, surrenders and Hun nobles in the Han dynasty. However, according to the theme of New Book of Jia Zi, Hu opera in the historical documents refers to the banquet performance to entertain Huns emissaries, surrenders and nobles for achieving the purpose of entertainment, and is viewed as an artistic form and culture involving the central plains, Huns and western regions. As a very important part of "three rewards and five conciliations", Hu opera plays a strategic role of cultural infiltration to Huns.
