余华的小说《第七天》以新闻事件为题材,通过亡灵视角,以荒诞的叙事讲述了社会底层小人物的疼痛和国家的疼痛。小说以既锋利又温情的笔触带给读者对现实的重新审视和反思,表现出作家的社会责任感、悲悯情怀以及致力于书写中国故事的巨大诚意。但遗憾的是,被现实围困的余华没能从文学审美层面上很好地处理小说里的新闻题材,使得小说出版后毁誉参半,诟病颇多。

Yu Hua’s novel The Seventh Day is based on news reports,and tells us of the sufferings of those small potatoes fairly far down the social pecking order,and of the misery of our country. It is written from the perspective of the dead with absurd narration. The novel,with incisive and warm wording,presents a re-examination and introspection on reality to its readers. It manifests the author’s sense of social responsibility and his passion for the lower class and expresses the author’s sincere devotion to writing Chinese stories. Unfortunately,the author immerses himself too much in reality to retrieve the news theme from the perspective of literary aesthetics. After being published the novel endures criticism and enjoys praise at the same time. It has been criticized a lot.
