A Study of the Abandonment and the Revision of Alliances in the Spring and Autumn Period in Zuo's Commentary

盟誓是春秋时期不同政治实体进行交往的重要手段。由于王权、神权逐步衰落,诸侯之间的争斗愈发激烈,弃盟、改盟现象亦随之频繁起来。弃盟、改盟破坏了夏、商、西周的盟誓制度,加速了春秋政治乱象的发展,并与礼制相互影响,在一定程度上体现了春秋时期新旧礼制交织的时代特征。

The oath of alliance is an important method of communication among different political entities in the Spring and Autumn Period.With the gradual decline of monarchy and theocracy,the conflict for hegemony among the princes has been increasingly fierce,leading to the frequent abandonment and revision of the alliance.This phenomenon“promoted”the decline of the oath system of the pre Qin League as well as the development of chaos in politics,and could interact with the ritual system of the spring and Autumn period.All in all,this phenomenon reflects the intertwined characteristics of the old and new ritual system in the Spring and Autumn Period to a certain extent.
