夏鼐与新中国考古学——纪念夏鼐先生一百一十周年诞辰

目次。一新中国考古工作的主要指导者。二主导考古学人才的培育。三为考古研究引航掌舵。四致力学科体系和严谨学风的建设。五弘扬夏鼐精神,推进中国考古学发展。2020年2月是夏鼐先生诞生一百一十周年,同年6月又是他逝世三十五周年。夏鼐于1985年6月19日去世后,党和国家领导人致送花圈,中共中央政治局委员、中国社会科学院名誉院长胡乔木在《人民日报》发表悼念文章。胡乔木强调指出:“完全应该公正地承认,夏鼐同志和他的合作者们,开创了我国考古学发展的新时代。……毫无疑问,这一切成就是跟夏鼐同志1950年以来在考古工作中的创造性的辛勤劳动分不开的。”

The year of 2020 is the 110th anniversary of Xia Nai's birth.He was one of the major leaders and founders of the New China's archaeology.As a prominent and very learned scholar,he was well-versed in both the Chinese and overseas cultures,versatile in many disciplines across the social and natural sciences,and had an enormously broad academic horizon.Bearing seven academician titles globally,Xia Nai stood at the academic frontier,keeping a close watch on the development of archaeology in the world.Rigorous in his archaeological research,Xia Nai had a high reputation both at home and abroad.Being the director of the leading archaeological institution of the country for thirty years,he was loyal to the Party's line,principles and policies,adhering to the Marxist principle of'seeking truth from facts'.Working assiduously and selflessly,he dedicated his life to the New China's archaeological research until his last breath.Based on detailed and reliable records,this paper comprehensively introduces Xia Nai's leading role in the New China's archaeological training and education,his pioneering position in the initial stage of the New China's archaeological work,his thought in establishing the whole framework of the New China's archaeology as an independent scientific discipline,and his persistence in shaping the rigorous scholarship of China's archaeology.Though it is a fact that,owing in large part to the country's economic and cultural development,the whole discipline has changed enormously in the three decades or so since Xia Nai's passing away,we should not forget his breaking-through in archaeology as a young discipline,and we should try to comprehend his academic thoughts,carry forward the rigorous and scholarly tradition he persisted with,and make our own efforts to promote the development and transnational communication of China's archaeology.
