Translation studies has been undergoing rapid development since 1972 when Holmes first introduced the term as the name for this discipline.Holmes'map of translation studies has been praised, criticized and extended by many translation scholars. After reviewing the extension of Holmes'map, the paper presents some other frameworks of translation studies especially the one proposed by van Doorslaer in order to meet the needs of this expanding discipline. The new fields and approaches,as well as factors motivating these new frontiers of translation studies are also explained. At last, the issue regarding the constant"turns"of translation studies are investigated and discussed. It is concluded that although most of the so-called"turns"are exaggerating and rhetorical, the research on these"turns"have prospered the discipline of translation studies to a certain degree.
